Today we got back on the road again after a short break at home and this time, to North Adelaide. But not before a little drama to start the day when we received a text from our hostess who was frantic over a gas leak that had arose at her property overnight that we were booked into stay. She suggested we might like to cancel or re book but we were willing to continue, provided the house was safe. It just meant we would not have gas heating or hot water which was no big deal overall to us. So after our 4 hour road trip across the border into South Australia, our arrival was greeted with a big flurrry of Hi Vis jacketed gas workers and diggers at a big hole at the front of the cottage which was to be our home for the next few days. There were constant messages of apologies from the hostess and in the midst of it all there was a knock at |
We then decided to take a walk to familiarise ourselves with our location and the local precinct of O'Connell Street which is well known for its huge array of restaurants, cafes and food outlets. We wandered down through the pretty Brougham Gardens Park and as we were walking along Mr Roo found a Doctor's ID and security tag on a lanyard and upon reading it, we realised that it was from the nearby Women's and Children's Hopsital in King William Street, North Adelaide. So we decided to try and return it and found the Information Desk of the hospital and dropped it there and the lady on duty recognised the ID and was and was most grateful that it had been handed in.
After the walk we returned home to the hive of workers and plumber still busy and left them to pick up Jess's boyfriend, Bo who is studying in Adelaide who joined us on the drive out to the South Australian 3RAR Association Headquarters at Linden park for a "Meet and Greet event" for Vietnam Veterans, both local and visiting, who were in town for tomorrow's Commemorative Service (more on that in the next blog entry).
We finished the night with some tasty wood fired pizza from the O'Connell Street precinct and returned home to find that the all of the workers had disappeared and found a note inside from the house owner / hostess saying that all was well and that the gas issue was now resolved complete with a bottle of wine to say thank you for our flexibility!
Quite a day!
