This morning we ventured out to the South Australian 3RAR Headquarters once again and this time for the 47th Anniversary of Operation Overlord and The Battle of Long Khahn Commemorative Service. Most of you will know that Mr Roo is a Returned Serviceman and served in the Vietnam War and was a part of the Operation Overlord. Operation Overlord occured from the 5th to the 14th June, 1971 with 21 wounded and 10 losing their lives. There were family members of Servicemen who had lost their lives present and recognised at the service as well as those who fought, including Mr Roo. The Service was followed by a lovely luncheon and catching up with fellow servicemen and their partners. The function also included a raffle of which there were 10 prize draws and somehow between all the Roos, out of the 9 tickets we had, we had 3 wins!! We won a 3RAR Polo jumper (that Ryan is wearing in the picture <<<), a 3RAR Shirt for Mr Roo and Jess won a 3RAR Flag! Gosh! After lunch we then went to Harbour Town Shopping Centre and then to the beach between Glenelg and West Beach. It is always great to see the beach, even when it is cold but we only stayed for a short time and caught the arrival of a Qatar plane come in to land at the Adelaide Airport. We had some daylight to spare so went to Westfield Marion Shopping Centre before coming home to a cosy night in at our Settler's Cottage. |
