This morning we were off again, heading south along the North West Coastal Highway, a little excited as we were heading to a 'bucket list' destination - Monkey Mia! The drive itself became exciting too as more wider areas of wildflowers appeared along the North West Coast Highway and also into Denham-Hamelin Road which leads into the Shark Bay World Heritage Area. It was awesome! Mostly yellow and pinks with splashes of mauves and magentas dotted in the growing carpets. The photos do not do it justice and it was difficult to stop to get good photos as it takes time to pull up with a caravan behind, for by the time you come to a stop, the area becomes sparse again, or that there was no appropriate and safe pull over area where the best displays were! Nevertheless we got some pics! We reached the quaint seaside town of Denham which was once a busy pearling port before continuing on to our destination, RAC Monkey Mia Dolphin Resort and Caravan Park The first thing that struck us when we arrived at the park was the glare! Holey Moley! The Resort is undergoing |
Although it was a huge establishment, we were surprised that we had a huge site and almost an entire section to ourselves! Major works were still being completed and we could see that when it is completed it will be a very classy place indeed. The amenities were very high end - we were amazed!
Mr Roo and I took a walk along the shores near our Van site after setting up and were thrilled to spot our first dolphin who came right up to the shore along where we were walking! It was awesome!
In the evening Jess and I took a walk on sunset up around the Board Walk at the Visitors Centre when suddenly Roo was whacked by what she originally thought was a black bag whacking her in the back only to realise she was being swooped on by not a magpie, which are known to swoop, but a large Australian crow! It was so unusual! This crow did not give up and continued to swoop both Jess and Roo a few times and Jess spotted a nest nearby in the palm trees with young crows and we realised that was the reason for the swooping.
It was just so unusual as we had never seen or heard of crows swooping before!
