We spent today exploring the edge of the amazing Ningaloo Marine Park that runs alongside the Cape Range National park. The Ningaloo coast is a World Heritage Site that stretches 300 km around the North West Cape and contains the world famous Ningaloo Reef which is Australia's largest and most accessible fringing reef directly off the mainland of Australia. We were happy to explore the shores rather than to do any of the tours which ranged from whale watching, shark watching, fishing and snorkelling. We visited several sites along the western side of the peninsula including the Jurabi Turtle Centre, the Cape Range Visitor Centre and a number of the beaches along this western stretch of the peninsula including the interesting Oyster Stacks and the amazing Turquoise Bay! |
Cape Range National Park is a spectacular area of rugged limestone ranges and canyons and the area uses the slogan 'where the range meets the reef' and it does. Whilst we would have liked to explore the Cape Range National Park, we chose to focus mainly on the coastal areas, and hope to be able to do it another time.
After spending quite some time at Turquoise Beach, reluctantly we headed back to our Van but we did do some more exploring on the eastern side of the peninsula and Mr Roo tried out some adventurous sand driving.
We found ourselves unexpectedly stationary for a bit, but enjoyed the view out into the sea and there were a few face palms happening in the back seat whilst Mr Roo let some air out of the tyres before re attempting a 360 degree turn in the softest sand on the beach which actually did the trick, so we made it back to our Van site to see yet another amazing sunset to complete the adventurous and fun day!
