After an early morning walk, we spent time at Australian Fish Mounts with Steven watching and learning more about casting fins which are generally casted separately to the main body. These can then be shaped to create the look you are after and this is also pending the type of mount you (or your client) want that particular fish to be. In the case of Jess's Red Emperor, this is a wall mount, so you will see in the photo that the side which will face the wall, that fin is actually casted into the mould, just below the wall fitting. If this was to be a pedestal mount, the fins on both sides of the body would be removed from the fish before casting and casted separately, as shown below. |
Now to something completely different, Roundabout Culture in Cairns. One of the noticeable differences out driving was indicating when exiting roundabouts, either single lane or multi lane ones. It made me check the rule book in our states to see if there were any differences. Whilst each state rule book was similar, indicating left when exiting, even if going straight ahead or turning right (after indicating to turn right) was highly practiced in Cairns. Generally in Victoria indicating when exiting, unless doing a true left hand is almost non existent. It was an interesting difference to what we were used to, but certainly works well.
