After a freezing cold night, especially for the two outside in their swags, we were greeted with a beautiful crisp and clear sunny morning! Just as we were about to depart, a gentleman raced up in his car asking if we had lost a dog. He was very keen to find the owner, though we could not see a dog in his car. He went on his way to do the rounds of all the members of the caravan park as we headed off. We stopped in at Burra township and found that the 'lost dog' was running amok in the township. It was a huge dog galloping willy nilly in the town Centre. We then saw a small red car pull up and a girl jumped out and called to the galloping dog who seemingly recognised her and leapt into her car in a joyous reunion with another huge dog in the back seat! |
Other towns we passed through included Peterborough, Orroroo and Port Augusta. Port Augusta is known as the "Crossroads of Australia" and the Gateway to the Finders Ranges, the Outback and the Spencer Gulf. On this trip we will pass but not go into the Flinders Ranges on this trip and may see some of Spencer Gulf later in the trip, but for now we are headed to the Outback.
Funny enough, out of the blue, as we headed out of Mount Bryan, we had a call from Keith, the owner of Jubliee Downs Station that featured to our great surprise on the Outback Show last night and we told him it was a great segment and he replied that it all went well but he got ticked off by one of his grand kids who had obviously viewed it who said that "he heard his Poppy swear!"
We arrived at our destination for the night, at the beautiful and serene Lake Hart which is about 220km (137 miles) north of Port Augusta on the Stuart Highway. Lake Hart was once the site of an old salt mine and there are remains of a wooden infrastructure used during the times when salt was harvested from the lake. We spent the late afternoon exploring the area with a few good finds of old bottles that Jess enjoys collecting.
A glorious sunset and a crisp moonlit night concluded a great day on the road!
