After much planning and preparation, we were finally on our way! Even though we were all excited, we all spent the first hour of the journey in silence as it was almost surreal that we were finally heading off and each of us were running through what we might have we forgotten as is often the case when one goes on vacation! Our first stop was at the Yamba Fruit Fly Inspection Point where South Australia restricts fruit and vegetables and some plant products being taken into the State to protect from fruit fly and certain plant pests. and after being given the all clear we continued on to stop at Renmark for lunch and to pick up fruit and vegies due to not being able to bring through the check stop. |
One of the noticeable features during our drive from home right to our destination of the historic town of Burra, was how dry the countryside was. As we were booking into the Burra Caravan Park, the lady said they are hoping for rain as they have not had any decent rainfalls in some time. It was almost as if on cue, for as we left the office and parked the Van, in came the wet weather! Despite the dampness, we had a quick jog into town before returning to set up the Van for the night.
We spent a cosy night indoors and happened to watch a new TV series called Outback which is about the Kimberlys and of all things to appear is a segment on Jubilee Downs Station which is where we are headed later next month (more about that later) Those of you who have followed this blog previously, will know that our first major trip back in 2013 was to Jubilee Down Station in the Kimberleys. If you are interested to watch here is the link - Outback Season 1 Epsiode 2 This link may only be available for a limited time but it is worth watching if you are interested in the Kimblerlys in Western Australia.
It really made our day! A great start to our adventure!
