The wind had subsided overnight and we were soon back on the road, heading further south along the North West Coastal Highway, turning off at Burkett Road into the Ningaloo and the North West Cape Region. We stopped at Potshot Memorial which commemorates Operation Potshot which was the code name for a submarine base established by the United States Navy in 1942. It certainly was a great view out to sea as well as over the nearby landscape. We arrived at our Caravan site at the Ningaloo Lighthouse Holiday Park and quickly set up before taking the chance to explore. Whilst this Caravan Park was out of Exmouth, it was on the coast, just 200 metres from the beach which was perfect for us! |
We also took a drive up to the Vlamingh Head Lighthouse which soared on the escarpment above our Caravan Park. We spent some time up here taking in the sights for not only did it give an amazing view of the ocean and landscape, we could spot several humpback whales as they played and swam in the bay before us! It was simply amazing!
To cap off the amazing day we headed down to the beach to watch the sunset and found many others there as well, including a huge contingent of people up at the Lighthouse Lookout above us!
Whilst we were there there was a lass who was in control of a drone way out over the sea. We could not see where the drone was but could hear the operators exclaiming what wildlife they were seeing on the screen so we knew it had to be somewhere out there and just before sunset it appeared over our heads coming in to land. A pretty cool tool!
The brilliant sunset was simply amazing! No wonder there were so many people out watching it too!
